Ecco's Story Booster!

自從不在第一線教英文之後，總覺得各個節慶離我越來越遠了。十月初開始一直到年底，一向是英文老師們最忙碌的季節，先是裝神弄鬼要糖果的萬聖節，接著溫馨感人的感恩節，最後以熱鬧快樂的聖誕節結尾結束一年。雖然忙，可是熱熱鬧鬧過節，就有札札實實生活的痕跡。
現在當了全職媽媽，面對兩個懵懵懂懂的小男生，過節對他們而言還比不上開開心心過日子哩。還好我還可以說故事，雖然沒辦法像以前一樣「帶狀」經營節慶教學，能夠點綴一下也是開心的。
這個月第二個週日在力行圖書館輪值當志工，雖然離聖誕節還有點遠，但是第四個週日時聖誕節已經過了，到時的志工老師我猜不會講聖誕節相關故事了（註），所以決定挑個有點相關又不會太濃厚的聖誕節主題。在書櫃前巡了半天，欽點了買來還沒公開講過的All
You Need for a Snowman和Snowmen
at Christmas。

“Found a Peanut”這首童謠用的是耳熟能詳的Oh My Darling, Clementine的旋律，加上重複性高的歌詞和可替代的歌詞，使它成為家喻戶曉的Road TripSong。不過它也是一首很另類的童謠，歌詞觸及「死亡」，但其實天馬行空。記得我第一次聽的不只專心，還聽到瞠目結舌，最後莫名奇妙被戳到笑穴，笑趴在地。之後旋律和歌詞在腦袋裡飄了好久，有機會就喜歡哼哼這首歌。
這首歌不同版本有些微差異，比較普及的歌詞版本如下：

Little Rabbit Foo Foo (Retold by Michael Rosen, illustrated by Arthur Robins)

Little Rabbit Foo Foo是一首蠻知名的美國童謠，內容描述頑皮（其實應該是頑劣）的Little Rabbit Foo Foo拿著槌子欺負森林裡的動物，仙女看不過去，於是給他三次機會，提醒他要改過。沒想到Little Rabbit Foo Foo不斷再犯，於是仙女就把Little Rabbit Foo Foo變成goonie了。
非常簡單的內容，但是節奏輕快，邊唸邊唱還蠻有感染力的。兒子們最近愛極了這個故事，想到就會把書拿過來，挨著我說要聽Rabbit Foo Foo的故事（他們念起來像阿貝Foo Foo）。彼此看到對方不乖的時候，還會互相威脅要把對方變成goonie，很有娛樂效果。

上個星期天圖書館的英文故事時間我安排的主題是Monkeys。準備了四個故事：

Flip’s
Snowman


故事：企鵝Flip和小鳥一起做雪人，然後太陽出來了！雪人融化了～不過不用擔心，小手拉一拉，又下雪囉！
即使沒看過下雪或做過雪人的孩子，也會喜歡這個可愛的故事，尤其可以動手拉一拉，又能透過小洞看一看猜一猜下一步，因為參與，所以樂趣加倍。

這一陣子恰好了看了好幾本Petr Horacek的故事書，文字簡明，畫風活潑明亮，大量的跨頁圖非常吸引人，就連選用的字體看起來都特別有活力、生氣勃勃的樣子，讀來很有相見恨晚的感覺。
捷克裔的兒童圖畫故事書繪作家Petr Horacek出生於捷克，開始童書創作之前主要從事商業和廣告設計（雖然他本人笑稱在捷克其實沒什麼「廣告」可言，哈），他的作品融合蠟筆、水彩、壓克力顏料和拼貼，他的用色和拼貼的技巧，猛一看有一點點Eric Carle的味道，不過沒那麼奔放，而他飽滿鮮艷的色彩，和厚重筆觸，感覺反而比Eric Carle更可親。當然這是我的主觀印象，不過我的兩個兒子（2Y & 3.3Y）看Horacek的書時，反應確實比看Eric Carle的部份書要來的好（部分而已，Eric Carle還是有其不敗天王地位的～），我想除了畫風，另一個很重要的原因是前者的篇幅通常較短、文字較簡單，而且有很多cut-out和pop-up books，很是吸引孩子們的注意力。
列出幾本我跟兒子們都喜歡的Petr Horacek作品，大家分享。

Kate Lum和Adrian Johnson的What!
Cried Granny是一本很另類的「類」晚安書。其實他的全名是What! Cried Granny: An Almost Bedtime Story。噗，Almost，妙哉。
故事描述到奶奶家過夜的Patrick，到了該上床睡覺的時間卻東缺一樣，西缺一樣，怎樣都無法上床。愛孫心切的奶奶卯足了勁兒幫愛孫張羅，先是砍樹造床，還要收集雞毛做枕頭、剃羊毛織毯子，最後還做了一支超大的Teddy Bear，等到萬事具備的時候，天都亮啦～真是個連大人讀了也會會心一笑的幽默故事。

除了上一篇介紹知名度最高的Simms
Taback版本（Caldecott獎牌效應？），Pam Adams版本也很受歡迎，很多教具開發也都是以這個版本為藍本(這位老太太感覺挺慈祥的，不像會吞貓又吞狗的，呵～）。Pam Adams畫了一系列以童謠為主題的圖畫故事書，畫風一貫的用色鮮艷，尤其運用洞洞書設計，非常吸引孩子們的目光。除了There
Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly，他還另外改編了There
Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed the Sea，十分天馬行空。

英文的圖畫故事書裡，有非常大量是改編自耳熟能詳的童謠或韻文，其中There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly算是很受各繪本家和畫家喜愛的一首童謠，大概是因為"There was an old lady who swallowed..."一聽就覺得既幽默又意像十足，非常有想樣空間吧。

 其中我個人最喜歡的是Simms Taback（註）的版本。
